The purpose of the role

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for the overall management of Abraham Kriel Bambanani NPC (AKB).

Reporting structure

The CEO is appointed by and accountable to the Board of directors through the Chairperson of the Board. The incumbent’s actions will be in accordance with policies of the Board of Directors as well as national law and statutory requirements.

Responsibilities

The CEO shall be responsible:

  • To initiate strategy of AKB;
  • To oversee transformation processes of AKB;
  • To ensure that the company achieves the strategic and financial objectives agreed upon by the Board from time to time;
  • To ensure that policies are approved and adopted by Board;
  • To ensure that the assets of the organisation are adequately maintained and protected, and not unnecessarily placed at risk;
  • To ensure that comprehensive and appropriate internal control mechanisms are recommended to and adopted by the Board in order to mitigate against key risks;
  • Not to cause or permit any practice, activity or decision by or within the organisation that is contrary to commonly accepted good business practice, good corporate governance or professional ethics;
  • To communicate to the Board the senior management succession planning of including details of the organisation’s compliance with employment equity and human capital development imperatives, where relevant;
  • Not to act outside approved Board Policy;
  • To exercise strategic leadership to the management team re all important dimensions of the company;
  • To protect the best interest of children in the care of the company;
  • To oversee interaction with stakeholders and partners;
  • To ensure performance assessment and development of senior managers.

Performance evaluation

The Board shall monitor and evaluate the performance of the CEO against these agreed objectives at least once annually.

Minimum Requirements

  • Applicants must be able to fulfill the responsibilities set out in the above role description, as approved by the AKB Board
  • A relevant tertiary degree in human sciences, such as social work or education
  • Preferably a honours degree or post-graduate diploma in business administration or financial administration
  • At least 10 years’ relevant work experience of which 5 years’ experience is in management of children’s homes or comparable non-profit organisations
  • Proven experience in financial management, HR management and fundraising
  • Well-developed leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Honour the AKB ethos as a Christian faith-based organisation
